Booster Club Meeting – December 4, 2017

Susan Fraser opened the meeting at 7:05pm.

President's Report

January 8 is the next booster meeting

March 1 is the Winter Sports Awards

Booster Bash is March 3 at Pinstripes, $50/ticket, fun raffle items, save the date!

Susan told the reps that she has packets with the rep information and thanked the reps for volunteering.

Susan told reps to send photos to Mark Spencer, the Publicity Rep, for posting to the Booster Club Facebook page.

Treasurer’s Report – everything looks good, received membership funds collected by the District.

Membership Report – encourage winter team membership participation, the Club is close to 700 members. Remind people that there is a now a charge for girls’ basketball games, that would be covered with a booster club membership.

Spartanwear Report – looking for a volunteer in 2018 to handle online Spartanwear orders.  Selling Spartanwear during lunch on the 14th and on the 15th during the basketball game.

Yard Sign Report – Dave is caught up on orders, has a 100 sign heads ready for the next batch.

Boys Swimming – All Levels

 Lost by only 7 points to last year’s state champ, Lyons Township.

 Boys Varsity Medley relay swam the 2nd fastest are on track to set the record by season’s  end

 Hosted the 1st team pizza/pasta party on 12/1 (after Lyons meet)

 12/8 come out and cheer.  It’s GBN vs GBS at home!! It’s going be packed and loud.  All these swimmers know each other from clubs GA and GTAC. 12/9 GBN Sprint Classic 12/16 Art Van Aman Frosh Invite 12/19 open practice for parents and pasta party (cafeteria) 1/9 open practice for parents and pasta party (cafeteria) 1/26 Senior Night, pasta party (teacher’s cafeteria) 2/7 Pre-Conference Dinner

 Holiday Break – Varsity double practices, JV & F/S singles, many parents hosting meals for swimmers

Won the Glenbrook North-St. Patrick’s Tournament Brian Johnson won MVP of the tournament

2-3, first party is on December 14th. Suzanne Kahn orders Jimmy John’s for the boys and delivers to the school before the games.

Won the Waukegan Thanksgiving tournament, team doing well, looks like will be a fun season.

Midwest Cheer Fest – placed 7 out of 12 teams, girls felt it was a strong start to the season.

Boys Bowling

Large numbers, had to cut 6 boys.  Hosting a tournament this weekend.  Placed 5th out of 24 in Vernon Hills, Varsity is 10-1, JV 7-0.

GBN is hosting the Conference tournament.

Posted a high score for the first meet.

Athletic Director's Report

Good numbers for winter sports tryouts.  One of the goals of the department is to increase participation in all sports.  Two sport athlete number has increased slightly for both boys and girls teams.  GBN is busy hosting winter sports events. 

Spirit app has been implemented.  Students receive points for attending sports events and other school activities.  Students accumulate points for small prizes. 

Summer construction update, tennis courts will be taken down and rebuilt.  Back gyms are being remodeled, middle wall is being removed which will result in flexible use.  Gyms may not be ready for start of school.

Glenbrook North Hall of Fame is being created to recognize athletes, coaches, administrators, and teams.  The first group of inductees will be announced in January. 

Department asking coaches to reduce Wish List items because of tennis court and gym renovation costs.

District news, the bell schedule and final timing is being discussed again.
