MEETING MINUTES

January 9, 2019

 

Mark Spencer opened the meeting at 7:06pm

Meeting Attendees:

PRESIDENT REPORT:

Mark Spencer opened the meeting with a report on a new list of major projects to review.  Previous projects from the Booster Club include the stadium turf, scoreboard and tennis courts.  New ideas may be a stadium entrance or additional scoreboards, but undetermined at this time.  A wish list from the coaches has also been requested. 

 

TREASURER REPORT:

No report.

 

SECRETARY REPORT:

No report.

 

MEMBERSHIP REPORT:

There are approximately 617 booster club members to date. 

 

BOOSTER BASH REPORT

It will be held Saturday March 9, 2019 at Joe’s Live in Rosemont.  Approximately 1700 invitations are at the printer and will be mailed in late January.  We had approximately 250 people attend last year.  Sponsorships for $500, $1000 and $1500 are available.  The silent auction is being advertised to parents to solicit additional donations.  All donations are tax deductible.  Team representatives are asked to remind all athletes and parents to attend our biggest fundraiser where funds all go back to the GBN school sports!

CONCESSIONS:

Volunteer help is needed for MLK weekend basketball tournament Saturday, Sunday and Monday games.  Reminder that we are out of green balloons. 

 

YARD SIGNS:

All caught up on orders and all 25 people placing holiday gift requests picked up the yard signs. 

 

PARTY BOXES:

Party boxes are available, Janice distributed a list of who has and has not picked up the supplies.  Text Janice for your party box.

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR REPORT:

The Mark Rebora donated funds will be used to replace bikes as able with a commemorative plaque, since he was the champion of the spin room from inception. 

 

February 7 athletics and activities night will have the clubs and athletics in the CPA 6pm and the fieldhouse at 6:30. We are hosting Bowling and basketball and the GBN vs GBS wrestling was big event. 

 

There are job openings of the associate principle, head football coach and head girls swim coach.

 

TEAM REPORTS:

Girls Bowling: 

The girls bowling teams from Glenbrook North and Vernon Hills will bowl for charity at their January 17th match at the Hawthorn Brunswick lanes. Members will be collecting money for the Charity Stripe organization benefiting military families and cancer patients. The Charity Stripe is a charity located in Northbrook. We are planning a pizza party and senior night for the fourth week of January.

 

Boys Bowling:

Regionals, sectionals and state tournament.  Parent vs Player and banquet dinner January 27.

Boys Basketball:

Swimming and Diving:

Currently ranked 6th.  3rd in state for 200 medley relay, 9th for 200 free relay and 11th for 400 free relay.  Ryan Purdy has top time in state in 200 in, 3rd in state in 100 back, 7th in state in 100 fly and 9th in state in 100 breast.  Jake Shapiro has 9th in state in 100 fly and 10th in stare in 200 free.  Placed 2ND AT gbn SPRINT CLASSIC.

Upcoming events:

Home meet against Highland Park this Friday.  CSL cross over meet likely against GBS on Feb 1.

 

Gymnastics:

Cheer:

Freshman: 

JV:  Midwest Cheerfest and Stevenson Invite.  Upcoming events CSL, Niles, Huntley.

Varsity:  upcoming events include pizza party, conference @ Vernon Hills, Niles West and Huntley

 

Freshman Wrestling:

Our team is doing great – and for most, this is their first-year wrestling!  Boys are learning lots and seem to be having fun along the way.  They have really bonded as a team and are very supportive of one another, as well as their JV and Varsity fellow Spartans. 

 

Here are some of our results:

12/14 – beat Maine West 54-21

12/15 – team placed 2nd at GBN Invite

12/20 – beat GBS 57-30

1/4 -- lost to Vernon Hills 24-37

1/5 --  placed 8th at Libertyville Invite, with several wrestlers placing:

          J.R. Flood placed first in his weight class

                Ryan Suarez placed 2nd in his weight class

                Brady Rassin, Trevor Brocato and Nate Glazebrook placed 5th in their

respective weight classes

 

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Between now and the end of January, Freshman wrestlers will compete at Maine East (1/11), an Invite in Woodstock (1/12) and at our CSL conference tournaments (1/18 and 1/26).
