GBN BOOSTER CLUB
March 13, 2019
Lori Spencer opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m.
Team Reps and Guests: James Williams, Maggie Raid, Jennifer Bruns, Agnes Chua, Yuqin Guo, Amy Alcorn and Jody Cooper
Lori welcomed all the new Spring Sports team reps and thanked them for their support of the Booster Club and their teams.
Lori thanked everyone who supported the Booster Bash. The event was a great success with 218 guests and more than $17,000 raised that night. The new venue, Joe’s Live, in Rosemont was well received. Guests really enjoyed the space, the live band and the food. Co-chairs Lissa Silver and Wendy Nichols did an outstanding job planning the event.
The Spring Sports Awards Night will be held on Tuesday, May 28 and the Senior Sports Banquet will be held on Thursday, May 30. It was brought to our attention that Maple Jr. High graduation is also on May 28 at GBS. Unfortunately, with all of the year end events at GBN, there isn’t a way to change the date of the spring sports awards.
Beth Gavin-Pearson reviewed the current Treasurer’s Report. She asked that Team Reps fill out the forms available online when handing in team money. Please make sure to list which team and what funds are being turned in. A reminder that of the $10 per player Booster donation for spring sports, $5 will be carried over and used toward next year’s Booster Bash team silent auction items.
Tiffany Sybert is acting secretary standing in this week for Julie Henry.
Please remember to email Julie Henry with your sports results form or even just send an email with a few sentences.
ATHLETIC DIRECTOR REPORT:
Field House will be closed starting the day after graduation for roofing project.
Pool will close May 15 for renovations. GBN swim will be held at GBS during the summer months.
Parking lot adjacent to tennis courts/stadium entrance will be repaved over the summer.
GBN is hosting advanced play for Boys Volleyball Sectionals May 24 & 28, Water Polo Girls and Boys May 15-18 and Boys Gymnastics the week of April 29. VERY EXCITING!!
Party boxes are available for team pizza parties. Please contact Janice Larson. A reminder to make sure the box is returned promptly after use and also that all utensils are washed and that the box is returned clean.
For teams selling concessions, please contact Greg Plezskun for your cash box. He will give you the “seed” money. Please keep in contact with him regarding supplies that are running low, as well as to give him concession proceeds.
SpartanWear will sell at the Spring Sports Award Night from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in the CPA Lobby. This will also be marketed to 8th grade families as an opportunity to pick out graduation gifts prior to 8th grade graduations (exception is Maple Jr. High, but they can come at 3:00 p.m.).
SpartanWear will also be placing an order for a newly created Ferris t-shirt.
Dave MacMillin has received several sign orders and is working on them.
PRESS AND PROMOTIONS:
Mark Spencer encouraged team reps to let their teams know to Follow and Like the Booster Club Facebook page. Also, send Mark any special team pics and results that he may use on social media. Typically, we focus on the Varsity level teams, however, if a lower level team has something outstanding to report, please let him know.
Schedule was adjusted due to weather. Hoping to have our first game of the season on Saturday.
Has not played any games and we have not met as a parents group yet. The first game is this Saturday after a pasta night tomorrow.
JV Girls Soccer
Jenny Jordan and Cathy Burnham are the team reps. The girls were supposed to play their first game at Niles West on Tuesday, but the fields were still too wet. They will have to reschedule. There was an all-team pizza party tonight (3/13) in the GBN cafeteria and a good time was had by all.

Offense led by Farbman who is averaging 4 goals a game, scored 1/2 of our goals including game winner in OT against HC.
Gearing up for Evanston tournament this weekend
JV is off to a 1-3 start but we will never be concerned about their record. Their job is to just get better and they are everyday. All of their games have been close and they looked good in their win over Hinsdale Central Monday. We also have two Sophomores playing varsity who would have a tremendous impact on the JV level.
The coaching staff and I have been very impressed with the quality of kid on our team. They really are a great group of guys. We have also been very impressed with their willingness to work and their desire to get better. It’s going to be an exciting season!
