Meeting dates for 2019-2020 school year:

Wednesday, November 6, 2019                          Exec and General

Wednesday, February 12, 2020                          Exec and General

Wednesday, March 11, 2020                              Exec and General

Tuesday, May 5, 2020                                        Exec and General

Welcome to the team representatives!  Please refer to the schedule as there are dates published for the Booster Club meetings, however they are not taking place every month this year.  You will receive a reminder email, but please put the meeting dates on your calendars.

Patrice Bazianos will be running the bulk of this meeting and call upon the Booster Club Board members to fill in any specific details.

Team Representatives

Introduction to the coaches and parents from Patrice.  A detailed handout was provided with helpful hints below as well as Board Member suggestions as called upon during the meeting as noted.

1.       ACT AS A LIASON

You are the means of communication between your team, your coach, the Booster Club, the Athletic Department and the community.

Check the Athletic page of the GBN Website often and send weekly team emails.

Fill out the Sports Result Form on the www.gbnbooster.org website and send it to Julie Henry, Booster Club Secretary, before every Booster Meeting during your season.

o    Julie Henry; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

v  A soft copy is always appreciated, I may cut and paste instead of retyping.

2.       COLLECT DONATIONS

End of season gift to the Coach(es) (typically we collect $5 per player for each coach).

$10 per player for Booster Club Donation ($5/Booster Bash Baskets; $5/offset cost of pizza party).

Send money to Beth Gavin-Pearson, Booster Club Treasurer, checks payable to GBN HS.

o    Beth Gavin-Pearson; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  (1847 Maple Avenue)

v  Deposits - The Booster club is working on going through the district for all income and expense tracking.  This transition in still in progress, but working well for 2019.

v  The $10 collected from parents for the team will go to Treasurer.  Each team rep will get the money from the parents and the treasurer only needs the $10 for booster donation (bash+pizza) – not the coaches gift portion which is $5 per player per coach and can be kept until the end of the season for the coaches directly.

v  Do not put cash in the treasurer mailbox please, only through the slot on the door marked with a Booster Club sticker that goes into the house and a text or email informing of a drop off.  Please indicate the team, level, gender and purpose of the deposit.  Look for the form on the BOOSTER CLUB website that answers questions for all deposits if more information is required.

3.       PLAN PIZZA PARTY & TEAM BONDING PARTIES

Plan all-level pizza party for your sport, with Varsity Rep taking the lead.

Contact Karen Karp in Athletic Office to reserve room/date & Janice Larson for Party Box.

o   Karen Karp; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

o   Janice Larson; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Plan team bonding dinners for your specific team.

v  Party boxes – from Janice Larson.  Supplies can be picked up and returned with washed utensils.

v  Team bonding parties  - host pays for the main course and may ask for parent volunteers. Ask parents and agree to host or possible outing where kids pay.  Pinstripes does a Monday all you can eat pasta for $10!  If you use the cafeteria, reserve it in advance 1-2 weeks in advance with Karen Karp.

4.       STAFF CONCESSIONS

Concessions is the most important fundraiser for the Booster Club.

o    Create a SignUp Genius for the entire sport or for each level.

o    Remind your parents they must volunteer and ask the coaches to encourage parents to volunteer.

Greg Pleszkun is the Booster Club Concessions Board Member.  Please coordinate with Greg regarding concessions for your team.

o    Greg Pleszkun; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

v  Concessions – get parents to volunteer to staff the events.  Create a sign up genius and distribute for voluteers. Varsity rep may organize, JV to volunteer for Varsity and Varsity for JV events.  Convey to parents expectation of 1 to 2 volunteer times per season. Key fundraisers and meets, invites or conferences should be staffed as well as regular season.

v  Cash boxes have been distributed with $270 and need to be returned at the end of the season just with the seed money. All excess income to Treasurer for deposit.  Do not spread the lock box code to outside people.  List event and date.

v  Suggestions for additional/different snacks to Greg.  Pricing list has been updated, potential to round up quarters to near dollar, but that is difficult to over charge.

v  Consideration for debit or credit cards, however the fee for a credit card may be a hinderance. Remind kids to bring cash for concessions.

5.       DECORATE FOR SENIOR NIGHT/DAY

Most varsity sports schedule a senior night to honor departing seniors and their parents.

Contact Lori Spencer to reserve your sport’s senior night banner and to let her know if there is any shortage of senior night supplies in the concession stand.

o    Lori Spencer; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

v  Decorating for senior night is customary and banners, balloons and streamers are available thru Lori Spencer.

6.       SUPPORT

Support the Booster Club by attending meetings, joining and encouraging others to join the booster club.  Contact Cathy Burnham regarding membership.

o    Cathy Burnham; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

v  Support – Encourage membership with all the parents on the teams.  Pick up packet with the decal and membership card from Cathy.  Cathy will be at the next home varsity football game September 20th and at winter and spring sports jamborees.

Order SpartanWear and if your team wants spirit wear in addition to their uniforms and/or what the coach orders, please contact Heather Wilensky, GBN SpartanWear Booster Board Member.

o    Heather Wilensky; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

v  Spartanwear – GBN parent page or booster page shows items and sale times.  All items for the teams should go thru booster club where possible.  Vendor is more economical using Spartanwear and any profit goes back to Booster and GBN.  Logo should not be used outside official Spartanwear gear.  Coaches are exempt from the rule as they are allowed to create their own sports packs of course.

       Order Yard Signs

o    (David MacMillin, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

v  Yard Signs – 180 orders!  All orders can be done on efunds through powerschool.  Link from the booster club website.

       Attend the Sport Jamborees

v  Sports Jamborees –fall and winter intro to sports and fun gathering

       Support your team’s Senior Banquet

o    (Kathi Burow; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

v  Senior Banquets – Too early for planning, but fun for seniors to celebrate.

       Attend the Booster Bash

o    (Jay and Kathleen Henrikson; (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

v  Booster Bash – Joe’s Live new venue last year seemed to be a great success with the same plan for 2020 event.  Looking for sports tickets, travel and vacation rentals for donation. Looking for corporate sponsors as well.  Date will be march 7th pending venue acceptance or March14th as a backup.  Looking for volunteers to help plan and organize or staff the event.

Support your child by attending their games and don’t forget to:

BE POSITIVE     BE PROUD     BE A SPARTAN!
Thank you for your support.  We truly appreciate your time!

Open for questions or comments:

Tiffany – Fall reps reminder to keep email lists for Jamboree usage to reach out and communicate going forward..

Athletic Director:

Construction update.  The pool is finished, and kids are back swimming.  Plumbing and ventilation work has been completed with associated ductwork etc.  The air quality is much better.  Although the changes are not always clearly cosmetically apparent, the structural benefits were very much needed and worth the time and investment. A lot of focus on safety in happening as well. Door replacement and/or hardware replacement with key card access is a major project that will improve the security overall.

The gymnastics coach Ryan Dual has been selected as IHSA coach of the year.  Now he has also been nominated for national gymnastics coach of the year.   Only 1 from each state is nominated and this is a wonderful honor for Ryan and Glenbrook North High School.

A shift in dropping football numbers is leveling off and improving.  Boys cross country trending up.  Boys soccer trending up.  Girls numbers are healthy.  Girls tennis tryouts has high participants.  Good numbers in swimming with new coach.  Two new head coaches, Matt Purdy for football and Jared Schroeder for swimming.  Teams are adjusting to the new conference where there is a struggle in some sports and will be fine in other sports.

School district has approved the school calendar August 19 – Jun 3, finals are still after winter break.  Each semester has 89 days.  Spring break is March 23 week which is the last full week of school in March.  Late starts on Wednesday are consistent in the fall.  When there is no holiday or if it is not a short week there will be a late arrival.  This is intended as a benefit to the student and staff wellness.

Football Fresh/Sophomore

Our record is 0-2 and while points have been hard to come by so far this season, we choose to focus on the positives!  Half our team is completely new to football and are highly motivated to learn the game and be a part of an amazing GBN football program.

This past Saturday against St Pat's, Saroop Bhinder's interception and Payton Klein's 30 yard kickoff return (both freshman) were fun to watch and generated a lot of enthusiasm from the team!  We've also completed several passes on offense with both John Foster and Jack Goldcamp at QB. I personally enjoy seeing a team of all smiles coming off the field after practice!

As of last night's game 9/10/2019, the GBN Varsity boys soccer team has scored a total of 20 goals thru 7 games. Using the pledges that the boys collected at the first home football game, GBN soccer has now earned $800 with 13 games plus regionals to go. This total does not include the pledges that each and every player has gotten from family, friends, coworkers etc. on the their own. If they haven't, use this as a gentle reminder to start making phone calls and fill those sheets you were given. If you need more sheets, please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I will send you one. While it is important for the boys to raise the money, it is perfectly ok for parents to fill a sheet as well. Just think of it as nostalgic, back when the kids were young and you went to work to sell chocolate bars, gift wrapping and cookie dough.

The boys are on pace to break last years mark of 49 goals for the season so if they keep up the hard work, we should have a large check to present to a charity at the end of then year.7 games/3 per week.  Pasta parties.  20 goals.  Goals for charity for one of the team parents with cancer.  Pledge for goals.  Annual Iowa tournament homecoming weekend decided not to go.  Bringing in a sports psychologist to do team bonding exercises
