President’s report: Russell & Esther

Upcoming events:    Fall Sports Awards Night – Thursday November 12, 6:30 p.m.

Winter Sports Jamboree – Friday November 13, 6:00 p.m. discussion if we should change the time. Also is it viable to   sell spartanwear and concessions? Also location change discussion? Just the Spartanwear should move.  If kids stay for practice many will buy food if know ahead of time. Decision is to move the Winter Sports Jamboree to Main Gym.

Corporate Memberships - a few businesses have approached us to join. Discussed having a 3 tiered price membership. What will they get

in return? Should we put name on game program? Do not want to hurt sponsorship at Bash. Discussion on if it’s a good

thing or not. Do we need to put a committee together to follow up, discuss and decide? We have been approached in the past for

corporate memberships and never was followed up. We can thank our new and past corporate members.

Treasurer’s report: Marty (via email)

Cash position is good which should allow us to pay the $50k towards turf.  There is approximately $66K more than this time last year. Spartanwear is off to a good start with about $2k more of revenue, but more noteworthy there has been $18K less spent on inventory so far this year. Membership and yard signs are down, but it is probably too early to draw any conclusions.

We just recently received the check from book sale but it is in the process of being reconciled.  As soon as we get the final breakdown, I will let you know how we did compared to last year.

Secretary’s report:  Lauri

Please sign the attendance sheet before you leave. It is very helpful if you can email in your report before each meeting.  There will be blank report forms available for anyone who needs one at every meeting. Minutes will be posted on our website once approved.

Membership report: Anna & Ron - 744 to date

Spartanwear: Joy, Tiffany

going well, have some new items. Seat cushions will be in for Homecoming. Will be selling during basketball.

Yard Signs: Brian

Yard sales are fine, equal to/or higher than last year. 153 sign orders in now. People are still ordering. Will pick up for winter sports. I am waiting on delivery of wood. Will be doing another pickup - about 20% have not picked up their signs,

Concessions: Jamie (via email)

Concessions have been going well.  The volunteers have been wonderful even though the schedule, football in particular has not been.  We took in about $2900 for each of the first two football games (a bit below expected) and only about $2100 on Friday night despite the Junior Spartan crowd.  The cold weather and routing of Maine East contributed.  It has been a tough season with only 4 home games and no "big" name opponents. Soccer has been steady.  I do not know about swimming or volleyball.

Discussion on Concessions: Many asked if we can get some signage telling people we have concessions. Maybe a sandwich board with arrows to where stand is and a mention that “concession stand is open.” We appreciate the announcer mentioning the concession stand but that only works in big gym not small gyms. Need to inform those teams as well.

Booster Bash:  March 5th still need a committee and a chair

JV: 8 wins, 2 losses:

The JV golfers came in second of ten teams at the 18 hole conference meet held last week.  They lost only to New Trier.  It was a very windy, challenging day for golf and were very happy with 2nd place.  It was a fantastic season for the JV team - the only conference loss for the year was to…..New Trier.

JV 2 played 4 matches and one tri-team match.  They won all 4 matches and came in 2 of 3 in the team match up.  Great that Coach set up matches for ALL JV player this year.  We had a team pizza party on September 18th and will join with Varsity and all the boys for a pizza party at GBN on October 19th.

It was a really fun, supportive and successful season for JV golf!

Athletic Directors report:

The scoreboard in finally in and is operating. Still need to adjust a few things - has 9 settings for brightness. GBN goes pink still going on this week. Money will be split between cancer wellness center and Dr Paul Kent, oncologist at Rush - pediatric cancer research. Dr Kent was Teddy Shapiro's doctor.

We are hosting IHSA playoffs - golf, 10/20 soccer regional, championship game 10/24, hosting regional volleyball week of Oct 26th. Oct. 27th hosting sectional soccer and championship game on the 31st at 1:00. Nov 14th - hosting sectional swim meet.

We are an enrollment based conference, have been for past 50 years. So with Waukegan leaving the CSL and Vernon Hills coming in, our conference will be changed. AD's formed a competitive task force to look at all the schools in the CSL. Niles North should move into the south conference for 2016-2017 seasons. There has been discussion on the number of concussions with large schools playing smaller schools.

Motion to adjourn @ 8:30 – Carol and Nancy

Next month’s meeting will be held on Monday, November 2nd at 7 pm in the Green and Gold Conference Room

Respectfully Submitted,

Lauri Kaplan
